Neyshabur University of Medical Sciences (NUMS), an engaging university Centre, is responsible to solve any health-related problems in Northeastern Iran. One of the leading health-related problems in the region is the high prevalence of the diseases caused by the HTLV-1 virus. To address this problem, in the first step, NUMS has implemented a registry program to detect and register all people infected by HTLV-1 with the contribution of the Blood Transfusion and the Medical Council Organizations. By interviewing, reviewing laboratory forms, and performing additional tests where needed, all required information such as demographics, family history, and clinical information is registered to use in research, prevention, and treatment plans. The main objective of the project is to decrease the prevalence of HTLV-1 infection in the region.
